Bringing your business to United States?  Or taking your business outside U.S.?  There are a myriad of issues facing the business seeking to enter new marketplaces.  We look to provide current informative content directed at those in the business community who have the need to understand the constantly changing and complex path for people to come into or going out of the U.S. marketplace.

The attorneys in the Norris McLaughlin & Marcus International Business and Tax Planning Group offer a full range of legal services to our foreign and domestic clients who are engaged in international commerce.  Corporate, tax, intellectual property, immigration and litigation being significant components of our representation.   We are the exclusive New Jersey member of both Meritas and Legal Network International, which are affiliations of select independent law firms located in every state and throughout the world.  Our membership in these organizations provides our clients with immediate access to high-quality legal services in other jurisdictions.

We would like to give you information that will be useful in taking advantage of the opportunities and laws of the United States and its constituent 50 states.  Alternatively, through our experience and membership in Meritas, we also hope to offer insight for businesses expanding into non-U.S. markets.

Foresight, information and planning are keys to the successful establishment of a business anywhere, whether the operation is a branch, subsidiary, joint venture or simply, an investment in a local business.  Like any business venture, it is key to understand the laws and court system of the marketplace one is entering.  For example, how should a foreign business structure its investment?  How can that business protect its investment, its intellectual property, its employees?  How can the foreign business best insulate itself from the jurisdiction of local court system and damages claims that may occur?  How can the operation repatriate profits to the home country?  What impact will tax laws have on the repatriation of profits? Does the home country have a treaty with the country the business is entering that will have an impact on home country tax laws?   Those are some of the questions that we will address in this blog and site.
